Food and Drink
- No eating in the playing hall, including sweets. Drinks are allowed at the board, if consumed quietly.
On the Day
- No smoking is allowed in the church or its grounds.
Entry Requirements
- Federation member. If you are not a federation member it will be presumed that you wish to appear in the FIDE Ratings Database under the Isle of Man Flag (subject to the international rating officers approval) and an application to this affect will be made on your behalf, subject to you providing your full name and date of birth, If, however, you are joining an alternative federation, please advise Brian Woodard. Please note that you must be a member of a federation before the start of the tournament otherwise you will not be able to take part.
Re-arranged games
- If necessary games can be re-arranged to be played on an alternative date / venue, but must be played before the Monday of the commencement of the next stage.
- It is the responsibility of the player who wishes to change the date to organise the re-arranged game.
If this is not possible or your opponent doesn’t want to re-arrange then the opponent will receive a default win. - You must inform the controller before the round in question who wishes to re-arrange the game, when and where the game is to be played; followed up by the result.
Tie Break
Group Tie Break.
- Result between players.
- Number of wins with or without playing.
- Number of games won over the board.
- Number of games played with black.
- Number of games won with black.
- Flip of a coin.
Final – In The Event of a Draw.
- In the event of a draw in the Manx Cup or Plate Finals, the winner will be decided by a play-off after all games have finished. The play-off will consist of two blitz games with a rate of play of 5 minutes plus an increment of 2 seconds a move, with colours to be determined by the toss of a coin.
- If the blitz match finishes equal then the winner will be determined by Armageddon with 5 minutes for White and 4 minutes for Black, plus an increment of 2 seconds a move, Black having draw odds. A toss of a coin will determine colours.
- Manx Cup is a 3 phase pool tournament consisting of 7 rounds, with a 1 round playoff if necessary.
- 16 only qualify for the 3 phase pool tournament.
- 16 entries & above will result in a playoff to qualify for the 3 phase pool tournament.
- FIDE rated. (1st September 2026 ratings will be used)
- Example – 19 entries will result in a playoff 14 v 19 / 15 v 18 / 16 v 17 – even numbers have white.
- In the event of a draw, the winner will be decided by a blitz play-off after all games have finished. The play-off will consist of blitz games until we have a winner, with reversed colours, rate of play of 5 minutes plus an increment of 2 seconds a move. —————————————————————————————————————
- Manx Cup Quarterfinal will consist of 4 pools, each pool consisting of 4 players – total of 3 rounds all play all.
- 1st and 2nd place in each pool will progress to the Manx Cup Semifinals.
- 3rd & 4th will progress to the Plate Semifinals.

- Manx Cup Semifinal will consist of 2 pools, each pool consisting of 4 players – total of 3 rounds all play all.
- 1st in each pool will progress to the final – 2nd in each pool enter a play-off for 3rd place and so on.
Qualifying Round Draw:
- Playoffs if required 24th November 2025.
- Parings & colours will be uploaded on the website 17th November 2025.
